The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate operating around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, identifying the suspect as Muhamodu Sanni.

According to the police, Sanni was arrested at a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal while allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to a recent kidnapping incident.

The arrest followed intelligence-led investigations launched after three people were abducted during an armed attack on Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.

Rather than focus solely on the scene of the attack, investigators reportedly expanded their probe to the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnapping operation.

The strategy led operatives to the ransom transaction, resulting in Sanni’s interception at a POS location while he was allegedly attempting to cash out the proceeds.

The police said the suspect cooperated during interrogation and provided useful information about his alleged role in the ransom collection process.

He also reportedly identified two other suspected members of the syndicate as Aminu and Umar.

According to the command, the information provided has strengthened its understanding of the suspected kidnapping network and generated additional leads that are currently being investigated.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, commended the operatives for the breakthrough and assured residents that the command would continue to target and disrupt criminal networks operating in the state.

The police also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating criminal activities.
