Three fish traders from Benue State were killed by suspected militants in Alufu village, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The victims, from the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, were invited to Taraba to purchase fish. Hon. Clement Kav, the Chairman of Logo LGA, confirmed the killings to news outlets on Monday, April 7. He explained that the traders had been lured by a phone call inviting them to buy fish in Taraba.

“Five traders from Ukembelegywa ward in Logo LGA received a call on Saturday from someone asking them to come buy fish in a village near Alufu, Taraba State,” Kav said.

“The first three traders followed one route, while the other two were behind. Upon reaching Alufu, the first three traders were captured by a group believed to be militants. They were bound, and then slaughtered with knives.”

Upon discovering the fate of their colleagues, the remaining two traders fled the scene. One of the escapees, Mrs. Tabitha Atoo, returned to inform others of the incident.

Kav immediately contacted the Chairman of Wukari Local Government, Hon. Dauda Samaila, to report the killings.

“I quickly called my brother, the chairman of Wukari LGA, to inform him about the incident. He advised me to have the report taken to the Alufu police station,” Kav added.
