Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced make-up artist Abdullahi Musa Huseini (also known as Amuscap) to six months in prison for Naira abuse.
Huseini was convicted after pleading guilty to a one-count charge related to the abuse and mutilation of the Naira.
The charge states: “That you, Abdullahi Musa Huseini, on the 6th day of December, 2024, at Ali Jita Event Centre, Kano, while dancing at a social event, tampered with the sum of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) in 1000-naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them during the occasion, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
After his arraignment, Huseini pleaded guilty, leading the prosecution counsel, Zarami Mohammed, to present the case and submit evidence before the court.
In his judgment, Justice Shuaibu found Huseini guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison without the option of a fine.
Huseini’s arrest followed credible intelligence regarding his involvement in the deliberate mutilation of the Nigerian currency during his wedding celebration. Investigations revealed that Huseini intentionally defaced the Naira notes, despite ongoing warnings and campaigns by the EFCC against such practices.
