In Lagos, a Court of Appeal has unseated Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who held the position of Senate Minority Whip.

This decision by the Appeal Court declared Col Austin Akobundu (retd), the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the legitimate winner of the February 25th senatorial election, representing Abia Central. The ruling overturned the earlier decision of the National Assembly election petition tribunal that had upheld Nwokocha’s victory. Additionally, the appeal filed by Anthony Agbazuere, a PDP candidate, against Ginger Onwusibe, the Labour Party’s House of Representatives member, was also dismissed.

The Court upheld Onwusibe’s victory in the February 25th National Assembly election and concurred with the tribunal’s ruling that Agbazuere’s case lacked merit. This verdict affirms Onwusibe’s status as the duly elected representative for the Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency.
