The minimum offering I give on Sundays is $12,000 and $2,000 on weekdays. Even if you don’t give me offerings, I will still be stinkingly rich- clergyman, Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Port Harcourt-based clergyman, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has sparked widespread reactions online after disclosing the amount he gives as offerings and sharing his views on why some people remain poor.

While preaching in his church, he stated that his consistent and substantial giving ensures he will never experience poverty. He added that even if members of his congregation chose not to give him money, it would not affect his wealth, as he believes his prosperity is rooted in his personal covenant with God. According to him, he gives his offerings in dollars.

He said his minimum Sunday offering is $12,000 (or its equivalent), while on weekdays he gives at least $2,000. He emphasized that he maintains this practice even when he is not physically present in church or is traveling. He also remarked that his financial status does not depend on contributions from others, but on what he described as his understanding of how to “move the hand of God.”

Pastor Ibiyeomie further argued that a lack of generosity is a key reason for poverty. He stated that stinginess leads to financial struggle, while giving opens the door to prosperity. He encouraged believers to be more generous, adding that those who have been in the faith for a long time should demonstrate open-handedness. He criticized the habit of spending large amounts on personal enjoyment while giving comparatively little in church, suggesting that such priorities reflect misplaced values.
