The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three suspected criminals for stealing a motorcycle in the Gidan Ruwa area of the state. SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the spokesperson for the command, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, March 22, 2024. According to Wakil, the suspects made away with a motorcycle valued at N400,000 and later sold it for N100,000.

Furthermore, the suspects utilized the proceeds from the sale to spend a night in a hotel in Bauchi with their girlfriends. They also purchased illicit substances, cigarettes, and codeine syrup. Through diligent detective work, the stolen motorcycle, along with a fabricated metal object, and the sum of nine thousand naira were recovered from the suspects.

Wakil emphasized the commitment of the police to intelligence-led policing, aimed at ensuring public safety and curbing criminal activities in the state. The arrests were made following information received on March 15, 2024, regarding the theft of the motorcycle. Upon investigation, the prime suspects were identified as Yusuf Adamu (Dan Sarki), Mohammed Sanusi, and Masa’ud Ibrahim. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to using a fabricated metal object to unlock the motorcycle’s ignition before selling it.

Further investigation revealed that two of the arrested suspects were on court bail for similar offenses, while another had previously been convicted for breach of trust and cheating but was later granted a state pardon in 2022. The suspects will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
