Troops foil mass abduction in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempt by terrorists to abduct a large number of commuters at Unguwar Rogo in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A resident said the attackers were allegedly linked to notorious bandit kingpin Malan Shuaibu and launched the attack in retaliation for recent security operations that led to the arrest of seven suspected informants and logistics suppliers working with the group.

According to the resident, the suspects were accused of helping terrorists receive ransom payments through Point of Sale (POS) agents and facilitating the supply of motorcycles and petrol.

A security source said troops were deployed after receiving a distress call that terrorists had blocked the road and begun abducting commuters. The attackers reportedly hid in tall vegetation near the road and ambushed motorists.

Although three people were abducted, the swift intervention of the troops prevented a larger-scale kidnapping and led to the rescue of at least nine victims. Two female victims reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and were receiving treatment.

Security forces are continuing operations to track the fleeing attackers, dismantle their support network and prevent further attacks in the area.

Army officials said a detailed statement on the incident would be released soon.
