Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued 48 kidnapped victims after repelling a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was launched in the early hours of July 26, 2026, after troops of Sector 2 received a distress call reporting that a large group of terrorists, riding about 40 motorcycles, had invaded the community.
According to military sources, the attackers rounded up dozens of residents with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group remained on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
On reaching the scene, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon the abducted residents and flee into the surrounding bush. The swift military response led to the successful rescue of all 48 victims.
One civilian was, however, killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the operation, troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to maintain security and prevent further attacks.
