Perennial rivals Nigeria and Ghana are set to reignite their historic football rivalry as the Super Falcons face off against the Black Queens in an international friendly ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The match, featuring two of Africa’s most prominent women’s football teams, will be held in Morocco as part of both teams’ final preparations for the tournament.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are also scheduled to play Portugal in Lisbon next Monday, their second warm-up match in the lead-up to WAFCON. The team recently secured a morale-boosting 2–0 win over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

The Nigerian squad and coaching staff, led by Justine Madugu, are expected to depart Lisbon for Morocco on Tuesday, June 25, where they will conclude their training camp.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian team has already arrived in Benslimane, Morocco, for the final phase of their tournament preparations.

Ghana has been drawn into Group C alongside reigning champions South Africa (Banyana Banyana), Mali, and Tanzania. Nigeria will compete in Group B with Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.

The Super Falcons will begin their WAFCON campaign against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday, July 5.

The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from Saturday, July 5, to Saturday, July 26, 2025.
