Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has responded sharply to former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, following Amaechi’s claim that Wike does not show him the respect he deserves.
Amaechi had earlier questioned why his successor refuses to acknowledge him with due respect and even challenged Wike to walk with him from Abuja to Port Harcourt to prove who is more popular.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Wike dismissed Amaechi’s remarks, emphasizing that respect must be earned through one’s character, not granted automatically based on age or political seniority.
“You should be respected for your integrity and honor, not because you’re 200 years old,” Wike stated. “It is unfair for him to claim he is my senior and expect respect just on that basis.”
This exchange marks the latest episode in the longstanding rivalry between the two politicians, who were once allies in Rivers State but have since become fierce opponents. Their ongoing feud continues to influence political dynamics in Nigeria as the 2027 elections approach.
