Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s developmental strides—particularly in the FCT—have effectively dismantled any potential opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of key infrastructure projects in Abuja, including the Maitama-Gishiri Bridge and the newly completed link roads connecting Katampe, Jahi, and Mabushi.
In recent months, opposition figures—most notably former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—have been in talks to form a united political front to challenge the ruling party in 2027. However, internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and difficulties in building consensus among various opposition groups have hampered those efforts.
Speaking at the event, Wike praised President Tinubu’s leadership, saying the administration’s delivery of capital projects has significantly weakened the opposition’s credibility and appeal.
“The coalition is bound to fail—and it has failed,” Wike declared. “Your good works have killed the coalition,” he added, addressing President Tinubu directly.
Reiterating his commitment to the current administration, Wike continued, “Some people will not be happy; many of them were born not to be happy. Under Tinubu, contractors now have confidence in the government. Your good works have killed the coalition in Nigeria.”
