President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, June 11, said he would warmly welcome Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if and when he chooses to officially join the party.
Speaking at the commissioning of Arterial Road N16 and other key infrastructure projects in the Katampe District of Abuja, President Tinubu praised Wike’s contributions to governance and made a lighthearted reference to the minister’s well-known campaign slogan.
“We have somebody—Nyesom Wike—he is not a member of my party, not yet,” the President said. “But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy singing ‘as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us.’”
Wike, a prominent figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been at the center of political attention since he publicly backed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election and later accepted a ministerial role in the APC-led government. Despite his role, Wike has repeatedly insisted that he remains a PDP member, stressing that his cooperation with the Tinubu administration is driven by national interest rather than party politics.
