The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has detained 51 undocumented Malian migrants in New Nyanya, Karu Local Council, Nasarawa State. The group, which includes 40 males and 11 females, was found without valid travel documents or residence permits.

NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI A.S. Akinlabi, confirmed the arrest, explaining that the operation followed credible intelligence that led authorities to the migrants’ hideout.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the migrants may have fallen victim to human trafficking and smuggling.

“None of them were able to provide valid travel documents or proof of legal residency when questioned,” Akinlabi stated.

The individuals are currently in custody for further profiling and investigation as authorities work to uncover the details of their illegal entry into the country.
