A 71-year-old cleric, Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, has been found dead in a hotel in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, just hours before his scheduled installation as Head Prayer Warrior Father of a Cherubim and Seraphim Church.

According to Daily Trust, Fajana had travelled to the town to participate in a church programme at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, where he was expected to be formally inaugurated into the spiritual role.

The ceremony, however, ended in tragedy after he was discovered lifeless in his hotel room where he had lodged ahead of the event.

His sudden death has raised concerns among family members and church associates, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sources said controversy emerged after the cleric’s body was reportedly moved from the hotel to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko before a formal medical confirmation of death was issued, raising questions about whether due procedures were followed.

Disturbed by the development, family members have reportedly petitioned law enforcement authorities, leading to a full-scale investigation.

Detectives are currently working to establish the cause of death and reconstruct the events leading up to the incident, including identifying individuals who were with the deceased before he was found.

As part of the probe, three persons have reportedly been taken into custody to assist with investigations.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed that the matter is under active investigation.

He said detectives are reviewing all aspects of the case to determine whether any foul play was involved, adding that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted according to the law.
