The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the cut-off mark for admissions into universities for the 2022/23 academic session will be set at 140 and above nationwide. This information was shared by Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of the board, during the 2023 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions and awards held in Abuja on Saturday, June 24.

In addition, JAMB has approved a cut-off mark of 100 for admissions into Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. While universities have the freedom to establish their own individual cut-off marks, no university will be permitted to admit candidates who score below the 140 benchmark. Prof. Oloyede mentioned that various universities have proposed their preferred cut-off marks, with the University of Jos proposing 180, University of Ibadan and University of Benin proposing 200, University of Lagos and Federal University of Technology proposing 200, among others. The Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos proposed the highest benchmark of 220, while approximately 15 universities, mostly in the private sector, suggested lowering the benchmark to 120, a proposal that was rejected.
