A 44-year-old man has tragically drowned in Agba Dam, located in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
The Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, revealed this information in a statement, stating that the incident occurred at 10:50 hours on Monday, November 27, 2023.
Upon receiving a distress call from Mr. Onikepe Bolaji reporting the discovery of a body in the dam, the fire service promptly responded. Adekunle explained, “The firemen quickly initiated a rescue operation, deploying their boat upon arrival. They successfully retrieved the body of the 44-year-old man who had drowned.”
The statement further noted that the rescue team’s proficiency was evident, and the recovered body was handed over to DSP Achimugu Samuel of the Nigeria Police.
Present at the scene were the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Lade, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources. The Honourable Commissioner praised the rescue team for their commendable performance in managing the situation.
In response to the incident, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sorrow and urged the general public to exercise increased vigilance in their neighborhoods to prevent similar tragedies.
