A health assistant named Victoria reportedly took her own life within a medical center where she was employed in the Surulere area of Lagos state on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
The Surulere Police Division received a report from the Medical Director of the health center, stating that Victoria was absent from her duty post on that day. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact her, the medical director informed the police that her phone was heard ringing inside a room in the hospital. Efforts to open the door proved futile as it was locked from the inside. A carpenter was summoned, and upon forced entry, Victoria’s lifeless body was discovered on the bed.
Upon inspection, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) found various drugs, injections, and syringes in proximity to the deceased. It is presumed that she used these substances to end her life, as no signs of physical injury were detected on her body. Her body has been deposited in the morgue.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been initiated.
