The Kwara State Police Command apprehended medical staff from the Government Cottage Hospital in Iloffa town, situated in the Oke-Ero local government area, concerning the disappearance of a newborn’s umbilical cord and placenta. Mrs. Williams C.B.A., a new mother, reported the missing items after her delivery last Sunday, prompting a police investigation. Five suspected health workers are currently detained by the General Investigation Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin. The situation escalated to the point where Odo-Owa community elders intervened to calm agitated youths who were on the verge of setting the hospital ablaze. The Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigation. Mrs. Williams, a teacher at Orofa High School, Odo-Owa, recounted her experience and noted the presence of four women during her delivery. Suspicion arose when the doctor and nurses failed to account for the placenta and umbilical cord. Mrs. Williams’ father, Mr. Rufus Sanya, expressed suspicion of foul play and urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter for justice and peace of mind.
