Police Arrest 54-Year-Old Suspected Gunrunner In Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 54-year-old Hamsatu Modu for trafficking 350 rounds of ammunition from Buni Yadi to Damaturu.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Modu, a resident of Morami village in Jakana, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, was apprehended by officers at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Damaturu. On October 20, 2024, around 6:30 PM, police received credible intelligence about a suspected gunrunner heading to Damaturu.

A swift operation led to the interception of a Golf 3 saloon car, where a thorough search uncovered 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 mm ammunition concealed in Modu’s luggage.

The suspect is currently being interrogated as investigators work to uncover the broader criminal network involved in the trafficking. Commissioner of Police CP Garba Ahmed reiterated the Command’s dedication to fighting crime and encouraged community members to collaborate with security agencies.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station, emphasizing, “If you see something, say something.”
