Four Killed as Gunmen Attack Immigration Facilities in Kebbi

A local watchman and three contractors were killed on January 10 when suspected terrorists attacked the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facilities in Kebbi State.

NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, confirmed the attack in a statement on Sunday, revealing that it occurred at the Kangiwa border in Kangiwa Local Government Area. He clarified that no NIS officers were killed in the assault.

Udo expressed condolences to the families of the victims and reassured the public that efforts were underway, in collaboration with other agencies, to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.

Despite the tragedy, Udo emphasized that the NIS remains committed to its primary responsibility of securing the nation’s borders and contributing to national security.

“The service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors at the Kangiwa border in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State at about 19:20 on Friday, January 10, 2025.

The attack resulted in the deaths of four people, including a local watchman and three contractors, as well as significant damage to our security facilities. Fortunately, no immigration officers were killed.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We are actively collaborating with sister agencies to identify and bring those responsible for this attack to justice.

The service remains steadfast and unwavering in its mission to secure the nation’s borders and uphold national security,” he stated.
