Terrorists from the Lakurawa group have killed three employees of a leading telecommunications company and one other person in Kebbi State.

The attack occurred on January 10, 2025, at around 8:47 pm, when the insurgents raided a construction site in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area, just days after killing two police officers.

The victims were reportedly installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service when the terrorists struck, killing them and one other person whose identity remains unknown.

While police reports identified three of the deceased as staff of Airtel, local sources claim they were Immigration staff. A staff member from Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital confirmed that three of the deceased brought to the hospital were indeed immigration personnel.

The State Police Command spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that four people had been killed—one local resident and three Airtel staff members.

Upon receiving the report, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, along with the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, quickly mobilized their teams to the scene to evacuate the bodies to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

Abubakar added that additional tactical teams have been deployed to the area to deal with the suspected bandits operating in the region. The Commissioner of Police also held a meeting with local residents, urging them to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by providing relevant information for a swift response.
