Jude Bellingham has been handed a two-game suspension after the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee upheld his red card during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna on February 15. The England international will miss La Liga matches against Girona and Real Betis, although Madrid intends to appeal the decision.

Bellingham was sent off in the 39th minute of the match at El Sadar, with Madrid leading 1-0. Referee José Luis Munuera Montero stated in his report that Bellingham insulted him by saying, “f–k you.” However, both Bellingham and Madrid contested this claim, arguing that video footage showed the midfielder saying, “I’m talking to you with respect,” before appearing to say, “f–k off.”

After the match, Bellingham voiced his frustration, stating, “It’s clear that [the referee]made a mistake, there was a miscommunication. I remember the incident very well, but also I’ve seen the video. The video doesn’t match the [referee’s] report… I hope the footage will be reviewed.”

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti also came to Bellingham’s defense, suggesting that the referee misunderstood the situation. “I think [the referee]didn’t understand English well. [Bellingham] said ‘f–k off,’ not ‘f–k you.’ [The referee] made a mistake… I don’t think it’s offensive. Bellingham didn’t do anything to deserve a red card today.”

The federation also confirmed it is investigating media reports suggesting a business connection between a company linked to Munuera Montero and various football bodies and clubs. The referee has denied any wrongdoing.
