The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into two suspects arrested for allegedly being in possession of \$899,800 in counterfeit United States currency.

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Hussaini (42) and Sahabi Adamu (53), were initially apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along Maiduguri Road in Wudil, Kano State. They were traveling in a commercial Golf 3 Station Wagon en route to Kila Village in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

During a routine search, NDLEA operatives discovered the suspected fake currency concealed inside a carton of Maggi Star seasoning. The suspects and the seized exhibit were subsequently handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the duo was on their way to meet one Muhammad Walo in Kila Village, who was to introduce them to a man known as Mallam Mashiru—a self-proclaimed spiritualist allegedly capable of transforming counterfeit dollars into genuine currency through ritual prayers.

According to the EFCC, the suspects will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
