The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has confirmed that pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa is still being prosecuted by Finnish authorities following his arrest in November 2024 on terrorism-related charges.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, August 21, General Musa stated that Ekpa’s arrest has contributed to a notable improvement in the security situation across Nigeria’s Southeast region.
“Since he has been arrested, the Southeast is getting better,” Musa said. “People thought we were just making noise, but the results speak for themselves.”
He further revealed that Nigerian troops have intensified operations to apprehend Ekpa’s associates across the Southeast states of Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Abia.
“We are going to go after the likes of him, wherever they are and whatever it takes, until we bring them down,” he declared.
General Musa also highlighted the recent arrest of leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group as a major achievement, crediting the success to coordinated efforts by the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
“What has changed is that we have synergy with all the organisations… and that is why we have seen all the successes,” he said, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ongoing security operations.
