Qatar Dismisses Claims of New Visa Restrictions on Nigerians

The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Nigeria has debunked widespread online reports claiming that new and stricter visa requirements have been introduced for Nigerian nationals.

Speaking to BBC Pidgin on Wednesday, September 10, an official from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that no such restrictions exist and that Nigerians are not subject to any new travel limitations when visiting Qatar.

The clarification comes in response to viral claims suggesting that Nigerian applicants must now meet a series of additional conditions to obtain a Qatari visa—including mandatory return flight bookings, hotel reservations, and limitations allowing only women or families to apply. Some versions of the report even alleged that only travelers staying in five-star hotels would be eligible.

The Qatari Embassy firmly refuted these claims, describing them as entirely false. The mission urged the public to disregard misinformation and rely exclusively on its official communication channels for accurate and up-to-date visa guidelines.
