Superstar footballer Lionel Messi has taken a major step into club ownership.
The Inter Miami forward, 38, has acquired full ownership of Spanish side UE Cornellà, a club based on the outskirts of Barcelona.
The Argentine now holds 100 per cent control of the fifth-tier team, located just five miles from Camp Nou. While the financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, the move represents Messi’s first foray into football ownership.
In a statement, UE Cornellà described Messi’s takeover as “the beginning of a new chapter” for the club, aimed at fostering both sporting success and institutional development.
The club added that the project will be driven by a long-term vision focused on ambition, sustainability, and maintaining strong ties to the local community.
Founded in 1951, UE Cornellà currently compete in Tercera Federación Group 5, where they sit third in the standings behind Manresa and Badalona, as they push for promotion to the fourth tier.
Notable players to have emerged from the club include Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba.
