Over 700 former terrorists are set to be reintegrated into their communities after completing deradicalisation and rehabilitation under a federal programme.

According to African Independent Television, the Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier-General Yusuf Ali, disclosed this during a media tour of the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Centre in Gombe, North-East Nigeria.

He said many Nigerians still have limited understanding of the structured counter-terrorism initiative, which is designed to support peacebuilding and stability in communities affected by insurgency.

Brigadier-General Ali explained that the programme focuses on deradicalising, rehabilitating, and reintegrating participants as part of broader efforts to restore normalcy in conflict-affected areas.

During the visit, some of the participants reportedly shared accounts of how they became involved in the activities that led to their admission into the programme.

The media tour was conducted ahead of a graduation ceremony for more than 700 participants who have successfully completed the rehabilitation process and are expected to return to their communities.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian military has dismissed claims that individuals who undergo the programme are being recruited into military institutions.
