The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the killing of an Anglican cleric, Emmanuel Ezeokwe.

The attack occurred on April 21, 2026, in Zinai Village, Bolki, within Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Police spokesperson Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed that suspected gunmen stormed the community and shot the cleric. Officers who responded to the report rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

According to the police, the incident was reported early that morning by a resident, who said the attackers struck shortly after midnight. Upon arrival, officers found the victim’s body and recovered three empty AK-47 shell casings from the scene as evidence. The body has since been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hasaan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough investigation and deployed tactical teams to track down those responsible. Authorities have also urged residents to remain calm and provide any useful information to assist the probe.

Meanwhile, the Anglican Diocese of Yola confirmed the killing in a statement issued on its social media platforms.

Church administrator Andrew Izuakor said the attackers specifically targeted the priest, describing the incident as a painful loss. The church called on the public to keep the deceased’s family, the Zinai congregation, and the wider diocese in prayers during this difficult time.
