The Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has directed the immediate dismissal and prosecution of ASP Nuhu Usman, the officer implicated in the fatal shooting that occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State, resulting in the death of Mr. Mene Ogidi.
In a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, DCP Anthony Placid, all officers linked to the incident were promptly withdrawn from the Delta State Command and redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they underwent accelerated disciplinary proceedings.
The statement noted that the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), along with other internal mechanisms, has concluded its investigation. Findings confirmed that ASP Nuhu Usman acted in clear violation of Force Order 237 and other established regulations governing the use of firearms. His conduct was described as unlawful, unprofessional, and a serious breach of his duty to protect lives and uphold the law.
As a result, the FDC recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers found culpable. The Inspector-General of Police has approved these recommendations and forwarded them to the Police Service Commission for ratification in accordance with due process.
Upon completion of administrative procedures, the officers involved will be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in the extrajudicial killing.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s zero-tolerance policy toward extrajudicial actions and abuse of power, emphasizing that no officer has the right to take a life outside the bounds of the law. He warned that any violation of this principle will attract strict disciplinary and legal consequences.
The IGP also extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Mene Ogidi, acknowledging their grief and assuring them that the matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served transparently, in a way that strengthens public trust and accountability.
