Ahmad Hardy reportedly sustained a gunshot wound while attending a concert in Mississippi over the weekend. The University of Missouri confirmed on Monday that the football star underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.
In a statement, the university expressed support for the player, saying: “Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”
Hardy, a junior running back, emerged as one of the standout players for the Missouri Tigers last season after transferring from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He reportedly rushed for 1,649 yards and recorded 16 touchdowns during the campaign.
Authorities have yet to release full details about the shooting incident. However, reports suggest that the injuries are not expected to have a long-term effect on Hardy’s football career, although the university said there is currently no timeline for his return to football activities.
The university added that further updates on Hardy’s condition would be shared when available.
News of the incident sparked concern across the college football community, with fans, teammates, and fellow athletes sending messages of support to the player on social media.
