The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), headed by Senator Seriake Dickson, on Friday, May 30, officially unveiled former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Obi emerged as the party’s flagbearer at a special national convention held in Abuja, where party delegates endorsed his candidacy ahead of the next presidential election.

The former governor joined the NDC on May 3 after defecting from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that generated significant political interest ahead of the 2027 polls.

His emergence as the NDC’s presidential candidate marks a major step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming election cycle.
