The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, pairing him with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the decision on June 15, stating that Amaechi’s emergence followed extensive consultations within the party.
According to Abdullahi, the choice was influenced by Amaechi’s strong showing as the runner-up in the ADC presidential primaries, as well as his long record of public service at both the state and national levels.
The ADC said Amaechi’s wealth of experience across the legislative and executive branches of government positions him as a valuable complement to Atiku’s candidacy. His political résumé includes serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation.
The party added that Amaechi’s nomination is expected to strengthen its national appeal and enhance its campaign as it seeks to present Nigerians with what it described as an experienced and credible alternative ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate after securing victory in the party’s primary election held in May.
