Real Madrid have completed the signing of Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan on a four-year deal, the Spanish club confirmed on Sunday, July 5.
In a statement, the La Liga giants announced that the 30-year-old defender has signed a contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2030.
“We have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Denzel Dumfries, who will be with our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030,” the club said.
Although Real Madrid did not reveal the transfer fee, several reports claimed the club triggered Dumfries’ €20 million release clause to secure the move.
An attack-minded right-back, Dumfries arrives to strengthen Madrid’s defensive options and will compete for a starting role alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Dutch defender joined Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and made 207 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring 27 goals and providing 28 assists. During his time at San Siro, he won two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies, while also helping Inter reach two UEFA Champions League finals.
Dumfries also represented the Netherlands at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Oranje were eliminated by Morocco on penalties in the Round of 32.
He becomes Real Madrid’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté.
Now under the management of José Mourinho following Álvaro Arbeloa’s departure, Real Madrid are rebuilding after finishing each of the last two seasons without winning a major trophy. The club has also extended Antonio Rüdiger’s contract until 2027, while long-serving defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba left at the end of the previous campaign.
