Édouard Mendy announces international retirement
Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 34, bringing an end to his distinguished career with the Teranga Lions.
Mendy made 60 appearances for Senegal, establishing himself as one of the leading African goalkeepers of his generation.
The biggest achievement of his international career came in February 2022, when he helped Senegal win their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title at the 2021 tournament in Cameroon.
Despite stepping away from international football, Mendy continues to receive global recognition. The goalkeeper was recently shortlisted for the 2026 Yashin Trophy, awarded annually to the world’s best goalkeeper.
Following his retirement from the national team, Mendy will now focus solely on his club career with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.
