The witness further affirmed that the signatures did not match those of former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

A forensic analyst has confirmed that documents submitted by Godwin Emefiele to authorize the payment of $6.2 million to foreign election observers were forged. This revelation surfaced during the trial of the former Central Bank Governor at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Called by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), witness Bamaiyi Meriga informed the court that forensic examination of the documents revealed clear evidence of signature forgery and discrepancies in the seal of execution.

Meriga’s testimony also verified that the signatures did not match those of former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

During cross-examination by Emefiele’s counsel, Matthew Burkaa, Meriga clarified that he was not employed by the EFCC and was not compensated by the agency to testify against the former CBN governor. He disclosed that his employment was with the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Burkaa expressed dissatisfaction with Meriga’s responses, accusing the witness of evading questions.

The trial is adjourned until March 11 for further proceedings.
