
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Ghana has arrested a suspected Nigerian drug kingpin, Uchechukwu Chima, in Accra.
The 56-year-old suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, March 18, 2024, following a raid on his hideout, where authorities seized 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin, with an estimated street value of US$2.1 million.
Francis Opoku Amoah, the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations for NACOC, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, March 19.
“An intelligence-led operation by NACOC on Tuesday, March 18, 2024, resulted in the arrest of 56-year-old Nigerian Uchechukwu Chima at Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra,” the statement read.
“A search at the suspect’s hideout uncovered substances believed to be narcotic drugs. Field tests confirmed the substances were cocaine and heroin, both illegal narcotics.
“The total amount of drugs seized includes 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin, with an estimated street value of US$2.1 million.
“Uchechukwu Chima, a long-time target of NACOC, is known to be behind several drug seizures and arrests in the past.
“With this arrest and seizure, NACOC has successfully removed a substantial quantity of drugs from the streets, preventing the potential loss of millions of lives due to drug abuse.
“NACOC remains committed to making Ghana an unattractive destination for drug trafficking, thus safeguarding the health and well-being of Ghanaians and the international community.”
