Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan delivered a strong performance at the opening meeting of the 2026 Diamond League season in Shanghai on Saturday, finishing third in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Fresh from winning gold at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana last week, Amusan recorded a season-best time of 12.41 seconds to place behind Olympic champion Masai Russell and Bahamian athlete Devynne Charlton.

Russell dominated the race, claiming victory in a meeting record and world-leading time of 12.25 seconds, surpassing her previous best of 12.40 seconds. Charlton, the reigning world indoor champion, crossed the line in second place with a time of 12.38 seconds, marking one of her finest outdoor performances.

Amusan’s third-place finish and improved timing signal encouraging progress for the Commonwealth Games champion as she continues preparations for the rest of the outdoor season. Her 12.41-second run now stands as her fastest performance of the 2026 campaign so far.
