The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that it will participate in the 2027 general elections after the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned a Federal High Court judgment that had ordered the deregistration of the party.
NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this in a statement following the appellate court’s ruling.
Dickson said the Court of Appeal set aside the judgment delivered by Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which had purportedly ordered the deregistration of the party.
According to him, the appellate court, in a judgment delivered by the presiding Justice, Mohammed Danjuma, and read by Justice Hassan, upheld the NDC’s appeal and consequently nullified the earlier Federal High Court decision.
Dickson commended the judiciary for upholding the party’s constitutional right to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process, describing the ruling as a victory for multiparty democracy.
He said the NDC’s registration remains valid and that the party and its candidates will participate in all elections in 2027 and beyond.
Dickson also urged party members and candidates to focus on their campaigns and preparations for the elections, expressing confidence that the NDC would defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.
He added that the party remained committed to expanding Nigeria’s multiparty democratic space and would continue its campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
