An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Aliyu Farouk, has said President Bola Tinubu may not be pleased with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over his recent criticism of APC governors.
Farouk made the remark while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday.
Wike had described some APC governors as “politically lazy” while defending his Rainbow Coalition, which he said was aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
His comments followed the APC Governors’ Forum’s rejection of any political alliance it believes could weaken the ruling party or undermine Tinubu’s re-election bid. The forum is led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Reacting to the development, Farouk said the APC was working towards establishing a unified campaign structure at both the national and state levels, with governors expected to lead campaign activities in their respective states.
He said the party would not stop Wike from expressing his views but maintained that APC members were unhappy with his remarks about the governors.
According to Farouk, the APC wants its members to remain united and avoid any arrangement that could result in divided support for the party during the 2027 elections.
He said the party would continue to develop a coordinated campaign structure across the country, with state governors playing key roles in their respective states.
Farouk also questioned Wike’s claim that he had discussed or reached an understanding with President Tinubu regarding his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the APC was not privy to any such arrangement and urged party members to avoid engaging Wike in public exchanges over the matter.
Wike has maintained that his Rainbow Coalition is designed to support Tinubu at the presidential level while allowing opposition parties to field candidates against APC candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
