
Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have successfully apprehended a suspected high-profile gunrunner in Taraba State.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, disclosed in a statement on Thursday, July 31, 2025, that the coordinated operation took place around Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib.
Shuaib, a native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, is believed to be a key figure in an arms trafficking syndicate operating in the region.
Recovered items from the suspect include 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 1 round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, ₦842,100 in cash, a black Jing Cheng rubber motorcycle, a Redmi Android phone, an Itel phone, two silver rings, and a First Bank ATM card, the statement revealed.
Shuaib is currently in custody and is cooperating with security agencies by providing valuable information to support ongoing investigations and future operations.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, praised the troops for the successful operation and reiterated the Nigerian Army’s firm commitment, alongside other security agencies, to eliminating criminal elements threatening the peace and safety of Taraba State residents.
He also urged the public to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information to help sustain peace and security throughout the state.
