The Presidency announced on Thursday, July 31, that President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Originally set to expire on August 31, 2025, Mr. Adeniyi’s tenure has been extended by one year.

In a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the extension was approved to allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives within the administration.

These reforms include the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the fulfillment of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

The statement also highlighted President Tinubu’s appreciation for Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and dedication, expressing confidence that the extension will further empower the Nigeria Customs Service to achieve its strategic goals in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
