Army rescues two kidnapped persons in Benue

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have successfully rescued two kidnapped victims following an intelligence-driven crackdown on criminal elements operating in Kyado, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 15, 2026, around 3:50 a.m., led to the safe rescue of Mr. Sylvester Micheal Ebuka and Mrs. Chidinma Chikwentu.

According to reports, the victims were abducted in separate incidents. Mr. Ebuka was kidnapped on April 2, 2026, at about 6:50 a.m., while Mrs. Chikwentu was taken on April 6, 2026, at approximately 5:13 p.m.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, Acting Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, said the rescue followed credible intelligence and sustained pressure on suspected bandit hideouts in the area.

He explained that troops carried out aggressive patrols aimed at dislodging criminal elements and disrupting their operations.

The intensified offensive forced the kidnappers to flee, leading to the successful recovery of the victims, who were freed unharmed.

The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication, noting that the operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led strategies in tackling insecurity.

He reassured residents of Benue State and surrounding areas of the military’s commitment to continuing operations until all threats to peace and security are eliminated.

Gara also urged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and reliable information, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial in the fight against kidnapping and other crimes.
