Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Spanish international Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a deal worth £51 million.

The 26-year-old midfielder has penned a five-year contract with the Gunners, choosing the North London side over several Premier League rivals. Arsenal had long identified Zubimendi as a top transfer target, and manager Mikel Arteta has now secured a key addition to his midfield.

The club confirmed the signing with a video posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday afternoon, revealing that Zubimendi will wear the No. 36 shirt.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Zubimendi expressed his excitement:
“This is a huge moment in my career. It’s the move I was looking for and one I really wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and team are. I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play suits me. They’ve shown their potential recently—and the best is yet to come.”

Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta shared his enthusiasm about the signing:
“We’re thrilled to bring Martín to Arsenal. He was a priority target for us, and we’re proud to have completed the deal. His quality and character make him a perfect fit for our squad. We warmly welcome Martín and his family to the club.”

Head coach Mikel Arteta added:
“Martín brings exceptional quality and football intelligence. He’s consistently performed at a high level for both club and country. His attributes make him an ideal addition to our team, and I’m confident he’ll be a key player for us. We’re excited to have him on board.”

Zubimendi’s arrival reunites him with former Real Sociedad teammate Mikel Merino, who joined Arsenal from the Basque club last summer. The Spanish duo is expected to bolster Arsenal’s midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
