Bauchi police arrest fake DSS operative

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Mustapha Yahaya, for allegedly posing as a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, July 27, 2026.

According to the police, Yahaya was apprehended in the early hours of Monday during a routine patrol by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) along Bayan Gari in Bauchi metropolis.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly identified himself as a DSS operative attached to the Bauchi State Command. However, further investigations revealed that his claim was false.

Habib noted that Yahaya is the third suspected impersonator arrested by the command within a week.

“For the third time in a week, the Bauchi State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of another impersonator. The suspect, Mustapha Yahaya, 40, of Ran Road, Bauchi, was apprehended for impersonating a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS),” the statement read.

The police said the suspect is currently being interrogated and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu urged residents to remain vigilant and always request proper identification from anyone claiming to be a security operative.

He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities in the state and ensuring the safety of residents.
