Justice Chinwendu Nwogu of the State High Court in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum challenging the constitutionality of President Bola Tinubu’s “peace pact” between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Led by former Governor Rufus Ada-George, the forum argued that the agreement is undemocratic and harmful. However, Justice Nwogu cited the lack of jurisdiction of the state High Court in hearing the matter as the reason for striking out the case. Despite expressing reservations, counsels for the complainant, Emmanuel Rukari and Anabs Sara-Igbe, stated that the Forum intends to appeal the decision of the high court.
