Ese Obire, an aide to the Delta State Governor, has criticized wealthy individuals in the state for what he described as a lack of investment in industries capable of creating high-paying jobs.

Speaking in a recent video, Obire lamented that despite Delta State’s status as an oil-rich region, no indigenous company currently offers salaries in the range of ₦400,000 to ₦500,000 to its employees.

He expressed concern that many members of the state’s elite are more willing to spend as much as ₦7 billion on social events and entertainment than to invest in ventures that could drive industrial growth and economic development.

While acknowledging the contributions of a few entrepreneurs, Obire noted that most of the businesses established in the state are concentrated in the hospitality sector, particularly hotels. According to him, such enterprises mainly employ front desk personnel and other low-income workers, many of whom earn the ₦70,000 minimum wage or less.

The governor’s aide urged Delta State business leaders to redirect their investments toward industries and large-scale enterprises capable of generating sustainable employment and providing workers with living wages.

He emphasized that greater investment in productive sectors would not only improve incomes but also contribute significantly to the state’s long-term economic growth and development.
