The Edo State House of Assembly has elected Yekini Idiaye, representing Akoko Edo Constituency I, as its new Speaker.

Idiaye’s emergence followed the resignation of former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, which was formally acknowledged by the House during plenary on Monday, August 17.

The sitting, presided over by Deputy Speaker Osamwonye Atu, witnessed a brief disagreement over the Owan West Constituency seat, but the situation was quickly brought under control.

After announcing Agbebaku’s resignation, Sunday Ojiezele, representing Esan South East Constituency, nominated Idiaye as Speaker. The nomination was seconded by Eric Okaka, representing Owan East Constituency.

The Clerk of the House subsequently administered the oath of office on Idiaye, who immediately assumed leadership of the Assembly.
