Former Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor has reiterated his deep admiration for Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu, calling him his “idol” and “god of football.”
Adebayor, who donned the number 25 jersey at Arsenal from 2006 to 2009—the same number and locker once used by Kanu—described the experience as a pivotal moment in his career.
The ex-Togo captain, who also played for top clubs including Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur, retired from international football after scoring 32 goals in 87 appearances for his national team.
In an interview with Brila FM, Adebayor dismissed any attempt to compare him with the Nigerian legend.
“Please, I beg you all—Kanu is my idol, my god of football. So there’s no need for any comparisons. Thank you for understanding,” he said.
