Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, pushed him out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Amaechi made the claim during an appearance on Channels TV on April 17. He said the former president and first lady had taken control of the party’s structure in Rivers State.

“The country knew what happened. I was literally chased out of the PDP,” the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain stated.

When asked who was responsible, he replied:

“The president, along with his wife. They took over the political structure in Rivers State and forced me out. Goodluck Jonathan and his wife handed the structure over to others, so I had to move.”

Amaechi left the PDP in 2013 after being suspended over alleged anti-party activities. He later became a leading figure in the breakaway new PDP (nPDP) faction, which merged into the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2015 general election. Jonathan subsequently lost his re-election bid to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023.
