Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (Rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released after spending 56 days in captivity.
Tsiga was abducted along with nine other residents on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State.
Despite weeks of negotiations and the payment of ransom by his family, Tsiga remained in captivity, defying earlier expectations of his release. While initial reports suggested a ransom of ₦60 million, a Daily Trust report revealed that the actual amount paid was nearly three times that figure.
A close family source disclosed that after receiving the ransom, the kidnappers went silent for a week before finally allowing Tsiga to speak with his family.
“The money was delivered to them, but they only contacted us a week later—on March 11—to let us hear his voice,” the source told Daily Trust.
Tsiga was eventually released in Zamfara State, from where he is set to be transported to Abuja.
A senior military official confirmed the news, assuring that Tsiga is in good health and safe following his harrowing experience.
